Senior citizens back

Following two years of Covid-19 isolation, older Pakenham residents are being encouraged to join the fun activities run by the Senior Citizens Club.

Pakenham Senior Citizen’s Club president Anne Ladlow said some people, particularly the older population, felt lonely during Covid-19.

“Didn’t we all go a bit insane? It was horrendous,“ she said.

“A lot of people couldn’t wait to get back to the club but we’ve found a lot of people haven’t come back yet.“

Anne worried that some people are still worried to join activities due to the fear of catching Covid-19, but stressed the importance of socialising.

“We do make a point of saying if you’re not well don’t come. No one wants to catch it,“ she said.

“But we have activities that should interest everyone. People need to come and join in and get out of the house.“

Held at the clubrooms on James Street in Pakenham, activities include Monday 11.30am lunch cost $8.50, 1pm Bingo and cards, general meeting second Monday of the month

Tuesday 10am and 1pm strength training, 1pm Hoy first Tuesday of the month, Wednesday 1.15pm carpet bowls, Thursday 11am cards, 1.15pm committee meeting third Thursday of the month and Saturday 1.15pm carpet bowls.

“As we are now out of lockdown we are looking forward to being very active for the rest of this year,“ member Dot Pocket said.

“We are looking forward to movies and afternoon tea, concerts and outings to interesting places.“

New members are welcome to come and visit anytime on a Monday morning and can phone Martha Walgers on 0416176631 with any questions.

For lunch bookings and cancellations, phone 59411297 and leave a message.
