Hard rubbish bookings return

The Cardinia Shire Council is once again offering hard rubbish bookings.

After being temporarily placed on hold due to staff shortages because of the pandemic, property owners and renters can once again book their free collection.

Residents get two free collections per calendar year and can book further collections at a $100 fee.

The service is for green waste and household items that cannot be reused. People are encouraged to consider donating items in good condition to charity, or selling them online.

Hard waste may not be placed on nature strips earlier than the weekend before collection week. They should be stacked neatly and not block footpaths, driveways, fire hydrants or roads.

Items may be collected on any weekday during your collection week and occasionally on Saturdays.

Piles should not exceed two cubic metres – approximately the size of eight recycling wheelie bins – per collection.

Items for collection must weigh less than 30 kilograms and be less than 1.5 metres in length.

People are asked to divide their waste into separate piles: one pile should contain whitegoods and metal, another should contain tied green waste and the third pile should be for household items.

Items not collected include dried paint in tins, household chemicals, batteries and commercial waste and some items may be uncollected if you put out too many items. In this case, you must return these items to your property.
