Drouin man killed in ute tray fall

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding an incident in Darnum in which a young Drouin man died after falling from the back of a utility tray overnight.

Police have been told the utility was being driven along Silbys Road when the incident occurred on Wednesday 15 December about 10.15pm.

At this early stage, it appears four males and a female, all believed to be aged in their late teens to early 20s, were involved in the incident.

Detectives are investigating one youth who may have been travelling on the bonnet of the ute, two in the tray and another two inside the cabin.

A 21-year-old Drouin man was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries after falling from the ute tray, however has now sadly died.

Police have spoken with the other people involved and a crime scene has been established.

A 20-year-old Darnum woman was interviewed by police and has been released without charge pending further investigation.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives will remain at the scene for most of the day.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or with dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or log onto crimestoppesvic.com.au
