Major delays on Monash this weekend

The Monash Freeway will be reduced to one lane in both directions at Forster Road from 7pm on Friday, 3 December until 5am on Monday, 6 December as crews work to connect a new bridge to an existing structure as part of the Monash Freeway Upgrade.

During this time, Foster Road will be also closed in both directions underneath the freeway with access to the Monash Freeway via Blackburn Road.

This will result in major delays on the Monash Freeway across the weekend.

Vehicles travelling on the Monash will be briefly detoured via the Forster Road exit and entry ramps back onto the freeway.

Motorists travelling on the Monash Freeway this weekend are strongly encouraged to find alternative routes around the works zone to avoid delays, consider using Ferntree Gully Road, Wellington Road, Dandenong Road and Warrigal Road.

These multiple lanes closures are needed in order to limit vibrations from passing vehicles to enable concrete to set to the required strength.

Stage 2 of the Monash Freeway Upgrade is adding 36km of lanes between Warrigal Road and Cardinia Road, improving journeys for the 470,000 motorists who use the freeway daily.

Real-time traffic conditions are available at traffic.vicroads.vic.gov.au or via the VicTraffic mobile app.

The latest public transport information and network status is available at ptv.vic.gov.au or in the PTV mobile app.
