Childcare fire deemed not suspicious

Police have deemed the fire which gutted the Officer Childcare Centre on Tuesday morning, 12 October as not suspicious.

A crime scene was established after the fire was extinguished around 6am, but the exact cause of the fire is not yet determined.

Calls of a fire on the Princes Highway in Officer came into emergency services around 4.20am.

A CFA spokesperson said nine CFA units from Pakenham, Narre Warren, Officer, Beaconsfield and Bayswater brigades and FRV crews attended the scene.

They said the structure was fully engulfed upon arrival but crews were able to contain the fire to the one building.

The scene was declared safe at around 5.47am and crews remained on scene for some time to mop up.

Police said no one was injured during the incident.
