Something’s fishy here

THE Pakenham Kids Fun Fishing Day at the Lakeside lake on Sunday was a roaring success, with more than 100 fish caught by a combined 200 entrants.
The event was run by Fish For Life – a not-for-profit organisation raising much-needed funds for the Cancer Council of Australia.
Fish For Life’s goal is to educate and teach the next generation how to fish successfully.
“It’s important that our children are aware and understand all about the sustainability of fish and sea life in our waterways,” said charity event manager Leatrice Shipsides who, along with her offsider Nicole Brown, single-handedly organised the local community event.
All told, more than 50 prizes were given out on the day with the largest fish caught a 44-centimetre rainbow trout.
The fish were caught on a catch and release program and prizes were handed out to different age groups and categories.
