Village carols usher in season

By KATHRYN BERMINGHAM

RESIDENTS at Evergreen Retirement Village welcomed in the Christmas season this week by singing along to Christmas carols performed by local students.
On Tuesday 25 November, the Beaconhills College Middle School choir delighted residents with beloved Christmas tunes along with some modern arrangements.
Following the carols, residents and students shared a barbecue and had the chance to learn more about each other.
Music teacher Lauren Lee said the visit provided an opportunity for students to engage with the community in a fun and festive way.
“The students were able to bring some Christmas cheer, socialise with the residents and share stories,” she said.
“It was the chance to sing to a very attentive audience, which gave students some valuable performance experience plus the opportunity to relate to more mature members of our community.”
“The students had to be encouraged initially to get talking, but once they got going, I found it hard to drag them away when it was time to leave.”
The choir has already accepted an invitation for a return performance at the retirement village next year.
