Council makes a connection

By ANEEKA SIMONIS

IT’S important to feel a sense of belonging.
Cardinia Shire Council is inviting all residents from all backgrounds to come together for a free community event as part of Social Inclusion Week.
From 11am on Thursday 26 November, the council office will be opened to the community in a bid to encourage connectedness throughout the shire.
Mayor Jodie Owen said every resident, worker or visitor is welcome to celebrate the event which aims to ensure all Australians feel included and valued.
“This event is for everyone in our community, of all abilities, circumstances, cultural backgrounds, and financial situations,” Cr Owen said.
“Social Inclusion Day is a chance to celebrate that everyone has an important contribution to make to society and deserves to feel valued and appreciated.
“It is also an opportunity to connect with other people in your local community and with the agencies and services that support us all.
“Come along, connect with your community and celebrate our diversity and inclusiveness!”
The All Together Choir will perform at the event and local young social inclusion ambassadors will share their thoughts and experiences on social inclusion.
A range of social support agencies and stall holders will also run activities and workshops and be available to provide information, advice and referrals.
Social Inclusion Week runs from Saturday 21 November to Sunday 29 November.
