BEAMING from ear to ear, one of Pakenham’s most valued volunteer workers said he was surprised to hear his name called out at a recent awards ceremony.
Robbie McGregor, 74, received his 40 years of service clasp at Pakenham CFA’s Annual Awards Dinner on Saturday 7 November.
“I was surprised… it felt good,” Robbie said.
Robbie was one of several prized volunteers who were acknowledged at the recent presentation event.
His 40 years of service now make him a life member of the fire-fighting group.
Pakenham CFA Second Lieutenant Stuart Sinclair said Robbie offers a wealth of CFA knowledge to the team, particularly its newer members.
“He always keeps up to date with CFA news. He has had a long history in the brigade and does non-operational duties to help the brigade.”
Robbie listed the many things he does around the station which include bin duty and attending meetings.
“I wish other members the best of luck… they all deserve awards for what they have done over the years,” he said.
Robbie plans to pin the clasp to his jacket for upcoming meetings with members of Pakenham CFA.
