A FREE community information session will be held in Pakenham to inform locals ahead of the rollout of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
Outlook will hold a meeting at its Pakenham Community Centre on 11 November to inform members of the community how the NDIS will affect them.
Providing financial support and freedom of choice to eligible applicants, the NDIS will begin in the Casey-Cardinia region from 1 September 2018.
Outlook’s community services manager Julie Walton said the session will provide the community with essential information on the scheme.
“The NDIS is potentially life changing for people in this region and there are things they should be doing now to make sure they obtain the most benefit from the NDIS,” she said.
“We will have presenters from the National Disability Insurance Agency as well as from Victoria’s Barwon launch site which has already rolled out the NDIS. We want to provide information to people on their eligibility for the scheme and enable them to plan for it.”
Nearly half the people receiving a disability support pension and living in the shire will eventually be supported by the scheme.
Julie added that the entire community is invited to attend the information session, particularly people with disability and their families and carers.
“We also encourage local community groups, schools, business and local government to attend the session and explore opportunities offered by the scheme.”
Places at the session are limited, and can be booked by contacting Outlook on 5941 1535 or emailing outlook@outlookvic.org.au
