Satellite shed

By CASEY NEILL

A NEW shed will ensure a fast firefighting response for Cannons Creek.
The Devon Meadows Fire Brigade officially opened a rebuilt satellite station on Cannons Creek Road, Cannons Creek, on Saturday 12 September.
South east region brigade administrative support officer Jane Barber said the former station was “like an old tin shed”.
“It wasn’t functional at all. There were no toilets or anything there,” she said.
“It was time for that to go and a better one put in.”
Thanks to Rural Fire Station Project funding, Ms Barber said there was now a kitchenette, toilets and room for the most modern firefighting trucks.
Devon Meadows Fire Brigade formed in 1946, has 20 members – several living in Cannons Creek – and attends up to 90 incidents each year.
It took over the Cannons Creek patch from Pearcedale Fire Brigade in January 1963 and over the next few years decided to build a sub-station.
Its first home was on land owned by brigade members Pat and Allen Pinnock.
The brigade received road reserve land in 1979 and Cannons Creek residents fund-raised to provide a shed that opened in 1980.
The CFA over time negotiated to acquire the land.
