A MAN has been charged over an alleged sexual assault of a 15-year-old boy at Fountain Gate last month.
Rahul Valiya Purayil, 30, of Clyde North, handed himself into police on Tuesday afternoon and faced an out-of-sessions hearing that night.
He was charged with two counts of sexual penetration of a child under 16 and three counts of performing an indecent act with a child under 16.
Police allege Purayil assaulted the boy in a car in the shopping centre car park about 2pm on 1 June.
Purayil was bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 24 July.
Police released CCTV footage on Monday of a man who allegedly spoke to the 15-year-old inside the shopping centre before the pair walked out to the car park together and got in a white car where the boy was allegedly sexually assaulted.
The boy fled and raised the alarm.
Detective Senior Constable Luke Swift told reporters on Monday it was not believed any threats were made and no weapons produced during the incident.
