Young aces belt it out

By Kathryn Bermingham

VICTORIA’S best young tennis players went head-to-head in Pakenham earlier this week for a chance to represent their state.

Trials were held at Pakenham Regional Tennis Centre for the Victorian team to compete in the Bruce Cup in Hobart later this year.
Twenty boys and 20 girls were invited to play, with a knockout draw held on Tuesday 2 June. The top eight ranked players received a bye for the first day and joined the competition on Wednesday.
Seven players will make the state male and female teams, who will train before the competition is played from October 17-24.
The Bruce Cup is Australia’s most advanced tennis tournament for players aged 12 years and under.
Trials were hosted by School Sport Victoria and Tennis Victoria.
