Maddy’s friends gather together

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

A SECOND rally for 20-year-old Maddy Murphy-West, who was found dead in her Pakenham home a year and a half ago, will be held at Casey Fields this Sunday to help raise funds for her son’s education.
Maddy’s family, friends and loved ones will gather at the rally from 12.30 in memory of the smiling young woman who was found dead at her Ahern Road home in Pakenham on 23 October, 2013.
Homicide squad detectives continue to investigate her death.
The anti-violence rally was first organised by Maddy’s friends last year after media reports emerged last year that she was allegedly physically assaulted in the year before her mystery death.
As well as to her three-year-old son, Noah, some of the funds raised at the rally, organised this year by Maddy’s family, will also go towards victims of crime and domestic violence groups.
Maddy’s mum, Paula, said the rally would always be a bittersweet memorial for her and her family.
“You’ve just got to keep going, that’s what Maddy would want anyway and that’s what the boys need,” she said.
“Hopefully we get some nice weather and people roll up.”
The ‘boys’ are Paula’s two-year-old son, Brydon, and Noah who she now has custody of.
