Sons and daughters of Anzac

Anzac100 Years 375x120

By CAM LUCADOU-WELLS

ENDEAVOUR Hills cenotaph hosted one of its strongest recent turnouts at Wednesday’s Anzac Day service.
A 100-strong throng of dignitaries, veterans, students and other onlookers stood in respectful silence for the service staged by Dandenong-Cranbourne RSL Sub-branch.
Carolyne Pettit, an Anzac Day regular of Narre Warren, watched her 310 Regional Cadet Unit daughter stand as part of the cenotaph guard.
She says she cast her thoughts at her late father-in-law – a former active member of Dandenong RSL and “proud” march flag-bearer – and her grandfather – who served in the navy during World War I.
Another Vietnam veteran – his chest gleaming with medals – said he remembered his military comrades.
“It’s important as a day of remembrance for everyone. There should be more of it.”
