SOCCER superstar Harry Kewell paid a visit to Pakenham this week, much to the delight of local soccer fans.
The former Liverpool player visited Pakenham Chrysler Jeep for about an hour on Tuesday to meet with several fans, taking the time to sign autographs and pose for photos.
When asked about advice on sporting success, he said soccer hopefuls should take every opportunity.
“I got my chance and I took it,” he told young soccer fans Evan and Jack.
“Eat well, sleep well and enjoy. And work hard, of course.”
David Harrison of Pakenham Chrysler Jeep said that soccer was growing in popularity in the area.
“It’s building up now, the local clubs are growing and we’ve got a couple in Pakenham and Bunyip,” he said.
“If we can get some of the local kids to have a look, it will enthuse them a little bit.”
When asked about meeting the soccer legend, local player James said that the experience was “very cool.”
“He’s such an awesome player,” James said, after spending time speaking with his hero.
After his visit to Pakenham, Kewell spent the afternoon running a masterclass at the Monbulk Recreation Reserve.
Pakenham United junior players Harley, 6, and Jasmine, 7, were excited to meet the attacking midfielder.
After Harley told Kewell he wanted to play the position of goalkeeper, Kewell joked: “You’re crazy, I’ll have to look out for you.”
