They’re up and running

By DAVID NAGEL

“THE Pakenham Racing Club’s new home at Tynong is the jewel in the crown of country racing.”
Those words from Racing Victoria chairman Robert Roulston summed up the mood at the Exclusive VIP Opening of the Event Centre at Racing.com Park, the PRC’s new home at Tynong.
More than 300 people turned out for Tuesday night’s lavish event, hosted by racing commentator Terry Bailey and featuring speeches from PRC chairman Don Duffy, Mr Roulston, former PRC chairman Michael Moore and APM Group managing director Paul Howard.
Mr Moore regaled the crowd with humorous accounts of PRC days gone by while Mr Howard explained the challenges involved in building the Events Centre to such a critical deadline.
“This project was living and breathing, it changed daily, the only thing that didn’t change was that the Pakenham Racing Club would be racing on Thursday 26 March,” Mr Howard said.
Messrs Duffy, Howard and Roulston then completed the ceremonial component of the night by cutting a red ribbon to signal Racing.com Park open ahead of today’s Grand Opening Raceday.
