THE Governor of Victoria will visit the Cardinia Shire for the second time in just four months to officially open the new Cardinia Shire Civic Centre in Officer next Wednesday.
His Excellency Alex Chernov and his wife Elizabeth will be shown around the new headquarters by mayor Leticia Wilmot, chief executive officer Garry McQuillan and councillors.
The event, held in the Civic Centre outdoor plaza, will include a traditional welcome and smoking ceremony by a local Elder as well as a performance by the All Together Choir.
Students from Officer Specialist School will also attend.
Cr Wilmot said council was honoured to welcome the governor back to the shire after he toured the area in October last year. She encouraged the community to attend.
“As more residents move into Cardinia Shire and more businesses and community services are established, this civic centre will become the heart of Officer, and a vibrant and thriving space for the whole community to enjoy,” she said.
Since the civic centre opened on Monday 17 November, council’s Customer Service team have answered over 30,000 calls, raised over 9000 service requests and served 5500 ‘walk in’ community members.
Council is also offering guided tours of the civic centre on Sunday 1 March between 10am and 2pm. Bookings are essential and can be made by contacting council on 1300 787 624 or by email.
