A TREACHEROUS bridge in Narre Warren which has been judged too dangerous to drive on has been temporarily closed.
The City of Casey has closed the Troups Creek bridge crossing at Fox Road in Narre Warren North, between Leech Court and Roy Close, in the interest of community safety.
It will remain closed until further notice.
Casey Mayor Mick Morland said the bridge had been shut as a “precaution to motorists” following the “recent deterioration of the road and bridge”.
“Council has inspected the bridge and significant repairs are required,” he said.
“As a result, the bridge crossing will need to remain closed until the necessary works are complete, to ensure public safety.
“Rectification works are still at the design stage and it is too early to advise when the road will re-open.”
Mayor Morland said the council will estimate a completion timeframe for the bridge once the new design had been finalised.
“While council is working to re-open the road as soon as possible, the safety of road users remains council’s number one priority,” he said.
“We apologise for any inconvenience that may be caused and we will continue to keep you updated on the progress of these works and how long the road will be closed.”
