BAILLEY Morrell will need to expand his trophy cabinet after winning another state athletics championship – this time on the big blue track at Lakeside Stadium.
Morrell, 10, from Pakenham, scorched the field at the School Sport Victoria (SSV) Track and Field Championships in the boys 9-10 age group.
Flying ahead in his pet-event – the 1500m – Morrell, a student at Beaconhills College, Pakenham, crossed the line in a personal best time of 5.09.85 in the 1500m race and backed it up with a bronze medal finish in the 800m with a 2.34.71.
“I got first in my 1500 and third in the 800,” Morrell said.
“Got my best time for the 1500 but not for the 800.
“It felt good to win and the blue track (at Lakeside Stadium) was awesome.”
Morrell’s 2014 was pretty spectacular after also winning the SSV cross country state championship for the boys’ 9-10 age group and also picking up a football premiership with his Pakenham Lions to cap off the stellar year.
He loves his cross country most of all, but he’s happy to compete regardless of the sport or the discipline.
Morrell wanted to thank his biggest fans – his family – for their support of his running and sports.
“I would like to thank my mum (Lisa) for training me really hard and my sister (Tenielle) and dad (Craig) for supporting me,” Morrell said.
