Silverbacks tarnished

By RUSSELL BENNETT

THE Pakenham Silverbacks gridiron club reached another key milestone on Sunday at Toomuc Reserve, hosting a massive triple-header of games from the morning to late afternoon.
The South Eastern Predators kicked off proceedings with an entertaining 20-14 win over the Melbourne Uni Lions in the first junior battle of the day.
Then, shortly after midday the crowd was enthralled as the Berwick Diamonds and Melbourne Uni Chargers took to the field. The Diamonds put in an impressive all-around performance, shutting the Chargers out in a convincing 20-0 win.
Finally, it was the Silverbacks’ turn. It wasn’t to be, however, for coach Damien Belsham’s boys – soundly beaten 34-6.
It was the fourth loss in a row for the Pakenham side, which won its first ever game last month – a 42-8 thrashing of the Northern Raiders.
The Silverbacks will travel to Henry Turner Reserve in Footscray this week to take on the Geelong Buccaneers from 10.45am this Saturday.
