Grants keep groups on the move

TWO human-powered vehicles from Gembrook Primary School have been given a much need push along.
The school received $500 from Cardinia Shire Council to assist with expenses ahead of the RACV Energy Breakthrough event.
The school has entered two vehicles at the challenge, to be held on 20 to 23 November in Maryborough, with Grades 5 and 6 students spending the past two terms in preparation for the event.
The school was among eight events and groups from the community and sporting realms to receive grants from the council last Monday night.
The Upper Beaconsfield Village Festival committee received $900 for expenses for trophies and awards for the festival’s Tower Challenge Fun Run next February.
The Lakeside Community Development Forum received $300 towards its Christmas breakfast.
The Kooweerup Men’s Shed got $200 for their annual Music on the Grass event on 16 November, which will provide musicians of various ages an opportunity to showcase their talents.
The Lions Club of Kooweerup and District also got $200 for the purchase of a St John Ambulance Hospitality Portable First Aid Kit for Lions functions.
One of the biggest recipients however was the 2C’s Sew and Chat Group which got $1000 towards expenses for wadding quilts which are donated to worthy community groups.
The groups has donated 362 quilts so far and is hoping to donate another 100.
Pakenham Junior Football Club received $1500 for its coming presentation night.
The council will also bankroll four $250 Emerging Student/Youth Artists Awards for those entering and being awarded at the Cardinia Shire Grant Art Exhibition on 6 to 9 March.
