Yabbies tossed in the deep end

By JARROD POTTER

Women’s Community Cricket Competition – South East

THERE was no easing back into the women’s cricket ranks for Pakenham Upper-Toomuc as the Yabbies (13) were pummelled by Ringwood (4/172).
Ringwood won the toss and batted first in the Women’s Community Cricket Competition (WCCC) South East season opener, with Cass Ager (2/37) opening the Yabbies’ wicket-taking accounts as she bowled Jessica Adams (2). Ager would get the next scalp as she caught-and-bowled A. Ewison (16) to keep the Rams from charging away with the match early.
The Ringwood middle order began to trouble Pakenham Upper-Toomuc’s bowling stocks and created headaches in the field as Elise Hopkins (59), Jessica Exton (26 retired) and Kylie Rule (29 not out) pushed the tally along. The Yabbies’ bowlers toiled to keep the runs down, as an impressive 10 overs came from the miserly Tyler Anderson (1/25).
Vicki Hilder (1/22) was another bowler to be seen off without questioning as Ringwood chose to block her out instead of attack her medium-pacers. The Yabbies battled on despite their numerous obstacles, with a new look team of some inexperienced players – one even sporting a cast fielding one-handed. The fielders kept smiling and chased every boundary to the rope which would have impressed Pakenham Upper-Toomuc captain Cass Ager.
The batting highlighted the Yabbies’ inexperience as they made 13 from 12 overs to finish the inaugural day of the season early at Pakenham Upper Recreation Reserve.
Pakenham Upper-Toomuc host Upper Ferntree Gully on Sunday from 1pm.
