Dance academy kicks high

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

A CASEY-based dance fundraiser which was held just over a month ago has exceeded expectations.
Backstage Dance Academy director Jessica Solomon said about $5223 had been raised from the August event which will all be given to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Ms Solomon, whose studio is based in Narre Warren, said she was originally just hoping to reach $5000.
“It went really well, everyone seemed to enjoy it – parents and students alike,” she said.
“We were aiming for five grand so we were really happy.
“Everyone is really excited to come back again next year.
“It was a buzzing atmosphere because we had an MC and we had a dance off with some prizes and giveaways.
“It felt like an event rather than a dance concert.”
Students from 12 dance schools participated in the inaugural event with each dance studio organising one or two routines on the night.
“I chose Make-A-Wish because they make wishes come true for children and our dance school is for children.
“We’ve had siblings who needed a wish and it’s nice to choose a foundation that supports that,” Ms Solomon said.
“It seemed like a fun idea and an effective way to raise money for those who need it.”
Ms Solomon said she had already booked in a date to run the event next year and hoped to organise more after that.
Dance Aid was held at the River Gum Theatre in Hampton Park.
