IT’S time to make Cardinia an age friendly city says U3A (University of the Third Age) president Vanessa Van Gramberg.
Officially launching the inaugural U3A Cardinia Seniors Festival, which kicks off with an art and craft exhibition and competition at the Pakenham Hall from 10am to 4pm on 8 October, Ms Van Gramberg said the show would go on despite its grant application to the Cardinia Shire being rejected.
“New residents to Cardinia are not all families with babies and young school-age kids,” she said.
“We need to remember a proportion of new residents are seniors.
“Cardinia seniors deserve more than just coffee and bikkies to celebrate Seniors Week.”
Despite this, Ms Van Gramberg is excited about the jam-packed schedule on offer with a line dancing demonstration, a free CPR session, a getting ready for the fire season seminar, and information sessions on the age pension, superannuation and retirement income streams, and how to research your family history.
“This is a festival not just for U3A members, but for anyone over the age of 50,” she said.
There will also be free live entertainment with crooner Paul D. Hogan.
The free shows are presented by Cardinia U3A and the Cardinia Art Society.
