BERWICK, Cranbourne and Clyde residents will welcome a brand new shopping precinct right at their doorstep with construction about to get underway for a centre in Clyde.
“Shopping on Clyde” will become a new shopping precinct on Berwick-Cranbourne Road.
The new centre will be developed by Jodie Mitchell from the Clarkson family. This family, including Judy Clarkson, has also developed the Blue Hills Rise retirement village in Cranbourne.
They have also been behind the establishment of six daycare and childcare centres in the area.
Ms Mitchell said following a number of business ventures, a shopping centre was “next on their expansion plan.”
“We identified a need for a quality, local shopping centre, with the convenience of some big brand retailers, as well as the opportunity to give some of our local retailers the opportunity to become a part of the new development,” she said.
The centre will be located adjacent to Villawood Properties boutique Pasadena community in Clyde.
The three hectare site will include around 5000 square metres of retail space and parks for nearly 400 cars.
Ms Mitchell said the centre had secured a number of major retail names as well as other, smaller stores.
“The centre already has a number of national retail tenants locked in including a full range Coles supermarket, Coles Express petrol station, Liquorland and McDonalds,” she said.
“We have identified that 19 specialty shops including a chemist, newsagency, post office, dry cleaners and bank will all become a part of the centre and we will be encouraging local retailers to become a part of the new centre.”
Stage two of the centre will include a medical centre, restaurant and gym, while stage three will boast a tavern, office, additional shops as well as real estate services.
The actual construction of stage one of the centre is expected to start shortly.
“We are about to appoint a builder and works on the construction of the centre are expected to commence in November this year,” Ms Mitchell said.
Villawood Properties executive director Tony Johnson said this was welcome news for residents in surrounding areas.
“Shopping on Clyde will make living at Pasadena even more convenient,” he said.
“Our residents will have this incredible centre right at their fingertips.”
“We have been working very closely with Jodie and the Clarkson family for a number of years now and are thrilled to see that works have started on this incredible new centre,” he said.
He said to already have such a huge number of big names on board is a good indication of the success this precinct will have.
