Make the connection

There is an election coming and politicians get their names in print and promise us the earth.
I have left two comments about Luke Donnellan on your website and I am critical of comments he has made about the Thompson’s Road upgrade and the East West Link.
Mr Donnellan is promising this, promising that, but what I would like to see is a journalist ask him a question or two about Labor’s past performance on his seemingly favourite topic of Thompson’s Road.
Labor has a history of using our money (twice or more) to do the same job.
Remember the South East Arterial? Labor refused to make it a freeway, so we got traffic lights at Toorak Road and Warrigal Road – eventually common sense prevailed and we got a freeway.
Labor under Bracks/Brumby had the opportunity to fix Thompson’s Road years ago but took the soft option and we got wire barriers, and now they say they will fix it properly.
Labor promised to duplicate Westerport Highway from North Road to Baxter-Tooradin Road and then reneged and wire barriers were installed.
Again ‘safety’ was the reason and sometime in the future a freeway will go through anyway, and they will spend our money again.
Mr Donnellan is against the East West Link, so I’d like to hear from him about completing the ring road.
People from this part of Melbourne do go to the airport, and do travel to places along the Western Highway and Hume Highway.
My point of writing to you is to ask for a journalist that will be aware of the facts and history behind a story and ask a couple of questions.
Granted, the politician might not want that question asked, but they should be accountable to us everyday people.
They work for us, and they spend our money, so it is our right to question their behaviour.
Des Kelly,
Lanwgwarrin.
