THE Pakenham Job Fair will continue to shine a light on local jobs for local people with up to 200 local job seekers, as well as community leaders, expected to attend next Wednesday.
The 23 September fair will feature 16 prominent local employers at Wise Employment’s High Street offices in Pakenham.
CWA Employment Services’ Cassandra Warin said just one filled job can make all the difference to regional employment.
“When you think about it, when one person gets a job, the ripple effect is enormous,” she said.
“The community benefits, family, children and most importantly the individual.
“Because of that first fair, we’ve now got eight job fairs running this year in Dandenong, Frankston, Cranbourne, and Prahan.
“Just in the first three fairs, more than 120 people have gone through to second stage interviews.
“Let’s make Pakenham a place people want to invest and live in. There will be lots of great opportunities (at the fair).”
The first fair was held in March this year which attracted over 150 keen job seekers who engaged with 15 Pakenham-based businesses.
They had the opportunity to apply for 30 available jobs on the day, including many retail and aged care positions.
Mayor Graeme Moore said keeping local people working locally was imperative.
“I want our local people to work in Pakenham where they can spend money in Pakenham and support the local community. I don’t want our people to drive up the Monash Freeway to go to work every day,” he said.
One employment consultant from the March fair said they were looking for people of any age, as long as they had a great attitude, were reliable and either had experience or were keen to learn.
The fair will run from 10am to 2pm.
CWA and Wise are also planning to hold a fair in Hobart next year.
