FORMER Pakenham gun Luke Walker further enhanced his reputation as one of the finest local footballers in the area on Monday night, taking out his first Alf Walton Medal as the best-and-fairest player in the Ellinbank and District Football League’s West.
Kooweerup’s skipper went from strength to strength as the season progressed and finished with a flurry to take the award with 20 votes over his nearest rival Brendan Hermann from Nar Nar Goon.
But for much of the night it looked like the league would have a real headache to deal with as the suspended trio of Dylan Collis (Garfield), Sean Marchetti (Cora Lynn) and Kurt Batt (Lang Lang) led the count.
Walker, a multiple-time VCFL representative, coupled his win in the Alf Walton by also taking out the West’s MVP trophy.
In other awards presented on Monday night, Longwarry’s Tye Holland won the East division’s Alf Walton just ahead of Buln Buln teenager Tyson Bale, who claimed the MVP. Longwarry won the East Club Championship with Cora Lynn winning its first ever title in the West.
Crows veteran Glenn Browney won the Gerald Heenan Medal for the best player in the East Reserves, while Nar Nar Goon’s Lucas Thomas claimed the West’s version. Owen Fitzpatrick (Catani) and Daniel Uzarevic (Cora Lynn) were the leading goal-kickers in the West seniors and reserves respectively.
