PAKENHAM Cricket Club is determined to prove that last season’s semi-final appearance in the WGCA Premier Division was no flash in the pan.
The Lions will once again be led by exciting all-rounder Dom Paynter, who ahead of this Sunday’s first training session for the season said he was confident his young side could reproduce its impressive form.
“That’s the aim, to prove that last season wasn’t about luck and that this side has some real substance about it,” Paynter said.
“We’ve got some really good young players, like Zac Chaplin, Harley Hulme and Ben Parrott who we expect to continue to develop and have a real impact this season.”
The Lions are running down a similar path to last season, with top-order batsmen, Jason Williams and Jack Anning, assistant-coaches, while a fully-fit Sean Gramc returns to Toomuc Reserve after recovering from a serious leg injury.
The Lions will begin training at 10am this Sunday, in training nets that will have three, brand new full-length pitches installed in the coming weeks.
The Lions will hold their season launch on Wednesday 3 September, at the Pakenham Football Club social rooms, with junior registration commencing at 4.30pm, then senior registration from 5.30pm onwards.
The Lions are looking to field five senior teams this season with junior sides competing in all age brackets from under 11 through to 17s. The club is also encouraging parents with boys and girls in the five-to-eight-year age bracket to come along and try the Milo In2Cricket program that will run throughout the summer.
The Lions have some attractive sponsorship packages available and would like to see old and new faces at training. All dates and information can be found on the club’s Facebook page.
