Blokes lunch gets more on board

PATRONS at the first Casey Cardinia Biggest Ever Blokes Lunch will be given the opportunity to get home safely thanks to the generosity of local company Simcocks Bus Services.
Simcocks will run two buses in a shuttle service from the Cardinia Cultural Centre to the Pakenham and Lakeside stations for the event, on Friday 12 September.
Up to 400 people are expected to attend the inaugural lunch, which will feature former AFL star Scott Cummings and Test cricketer Damien Fleming, to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer.
Bendigo Bank Pakenham branch manager Norm Davidson was so taken by the event that the bank signed up straight away as a silver sponsor and he joined the organising committee.
Mr Davidson then contacted Simcocks to see if they would help and the third generation local business didn’t hesitate either.
“It’s such a good cause, we were only too happy to help,” said operations manager Glenn Coster. “It’s always good to put something back into the community.”
Mr Coster said the cause also hit home, with several bus drivers at Simcocks having to battle prostate cancer over the years.
The Biggest Ever Blokes Lunch series was initiated by Shepparton newspaperman Chris McPherson after a run-in with the disease a few years back and this is the first time it has been rolled out in the Casey and Cardinia region.
The cost is $110 a head and tables of 10 are encouraged. That covers all drinks, a gourmet barbecue lunch and a full afternoon of entertainment.
As well as the Scott Cummings and Damien Fleming double act, AFL games record holder Michael Tuck will also make an appearance.
To book or inquire about sponsorship opportunities, contact BEBL committee chairman Garry Howe on 0407 203 525 or email garry.howe@starnewsgroup.com.au
