Fitness on the run

By JAYDE MORRISON

AN INTERNATIONAL fitness event is now being held weekly in Endeavour Hills.
The Frog Hollow Reserve parkrun is the second event to be held in Casey, with another launched at Berwick Springs late last year.
Parkrun is a world-wide event which occurs in many local parks on Saturday morning at 8am. The event consists of a five kilometre timed run and is open to everyone, free of charge.
Four Oaks Ward councillor Rosalie Crestani launched the event last month, with attendees including deputy mayor Amanda Stapledon and council chief executive Mike Tyler.
“You don’t have to be an Olympic champion to participate, people of all ages and abilities are welcome,” Cr Crestani said.
“You’re not competing against anyone and you don’t need any fancy equipment.
“Each Saturday morning you can come to Frog Hollow Reserve and run or walk the five-kilometre course and you will be able to track your improvement through your recorded times.
“Parkrun has a wonderful sense of camaraderie and community.”
As a reminder, the council has asked that all residents participating in parkrun events are aware of the relevant parking restrictions in the area and surrounding neighbours.
“It’s fantastic to see the community getting involved, taking ownership of the local parks and reserves and really activating the spaces,” Cr Crestani said.
