Dose of healthy habits

A FINAL session of specialised wellbeing training to assist teachers and childhood educators to foster healthy and positive habits in children will be held next month.
More than 110 teachers and educators took part in four training events conducted by Cardinia Shire Council during May and June.
Sessions provided information on healthy eating in long day care, road safety and active travel for children, and family involvement and communication.
The final session will focus on active play.
Council’s Health Promotion officer Julia Hobbs said educating teachers and early childhood educators would help create a healthy environment for the shire’s children.
“One in four children in Victoria is overweight or obese, so we need to do everything we can to encourage healthy behaviours,” she said.
“Although healthy habits start at home, the teachers and early childhood educators who took part in these sessions recognise the importance they play in reinforcing these behaviours at school or at early childhood services.
“Creating positive habits early in children’s lives gives them the best chance of continuing these habits through to adulthood,” she said.
The training sessions were provided through the Healthy Together Achievement Program.
