Needy need needles

CARDINIA Waters Retirement Village is knitting for the needy this winter.
The Pakenham estate’s Stitch and Giggle group and other residents have been busy creating jumpers, cardigans and rugs for the David Wirrpanda Foundation.
They’ve sent more than 100 items to the charity, which the former West Coast Eagles footballer heads.
Catherine McCarthy from the foundation visited the village last week to take the latest lot of knitting for Aboriginal babies in Western Australia’s north and the Northern Territory.
A previous lot of knitwear was sent to children in Africa.
The ladies are also knitting jumpers, bonnets and booties for premature babies in various hospitals, and they’ve given rugs made from knitted squares to local nursing homes to use as knee rugs.
