Wall tragedy family mourns

By BRIDGET COOK

THE family of a Tooradin father who was killed when a wall collapsed have paid tribute to him, describing him as a generous and loving man.
Michael Klanja, aged in his 30s, died on Monday after a wall collapsed at a building site on Elizabeth Street, Brighton East, just before 9.30am.
It’s believed Mr Klanja was standing next to a brick wall which was under construction when it collapsed on him.
The tragedy is believed to have been caused by a strong gust of wind.
Mr Klanja’s family released a statement on Monday and paid tribute to their beloved family member.
“Michael Klanja, husband to Isabel and father to two beautiful boys, will be dearly missed,” the statement read.
“He was a generous and loving man who was loved by all.
“He goes to meet his mother also taken by an accident as tragic as this.
“A life that was taken too early, but a life that will stay with us forever.”
It was reported that Mr Klanja’s mother died in a car accident about five years ago, in which he survived.
No one else was injured during the wall collapse incident and WorkSafe is investigating the matter.
“The Victorian WorkCover Authority is aware of the incident and is investigating,” a Victorian WorkCover Authority spokesperson said.
Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
