Eagles’ form explodes

By DAVID NAGEL

BEACONSFIELD is back in contention for a double-chance in September after the Eagles scored a character-building 21-point victory over Berwick in the Casey Cardinia league match-of-the-day at Holm Park Road.
This Battle of the Creek had everything – with the two arch-rivals engaging in a typical arm-wrestle before the Eagles exploded away with a stunning four-goal burst.
The win squared the ledger in their last 10 meetings but, more importantly, it also brought the fifth-placed Eagles to within a win of second place.
The Eagles’ seven minutes of brilliance in the final term was just reward for a tireless display of pressure and intensity that finally wore their rivals down.
Beacy had many good players on the day but the performance of reigning Norm Walker medallist ruckman Scott Meyer was phenomenal, while Shaun Pollard’s four goals were the result of his real energy up forward.
Jayden Gee, Kris Fletcher and Tyson Mitchem were others to shine while Mitch Johnson’s four goals and another quality midfield display from skipper Madi Andrews were the highlights for the vanquished.
Premiership favourite Narre Warren rebounded from its first loss since Noah had the Arc with a 52-point victory over Pakenham at Toomuc Reserve.
The Lions went with the Magpies early, until midway through the second term, before the champs just touched the accelerator and pulled away.
Col McNamara continued his fine form for the Magpies, while a fully-fit Jackson Parker was back to his best across wing and half back.
Liam Myatt kicked three for the winners while midfielders Dom Paynter and Russ Lehman were best for the Lions.
Einstein’s Theory of Relativity is easier to read than Cranbourne’s form at the moment after the Eagles went down to ROC by 17 points at Casey Fields.
The Eagles, who may be back on track after rolling Narre Warren last week, looked flat and lethargic as the energetic Kangaroos ran away with the contest for their best win in years.
Ben Tivendale was everywhere for ROC, while Jake Ingaliso, Andrew Logan and Travis Woodfield were also up and about.
Michael Boland and Anthony Vella were solid for the Eagles.
Doveton impressed its home-crowd as it raced past the 100-point mark, for the first time this season, on its way to a 62-point victory over Keysborough.
The Doves, who have been grounded all season, finally spread their wings, with 10 goal kickers contributing to an entertaining display.
Michael Laszczyk, Simon Black and Frank D’Agostino slotted three each for the home side who also had Jake Mullen and Mitch Anderson in ripping nick.
Danny Morland and Geoff Humphreys tried hard for the Burra who are really struggling with injuries.
Tooradin welcomed new coach Lachlan Gillespie in style with a 114-point thumping of Hampton Park.
Andy Clarke’s replacement watched on as his Seagulls rammed home 8.3 to 1.0 in the third quarter to take a stranglehold on things.
The two Jakes, Genoni and O’Donnell, contributed four each for the Seagulls, while Jimmy Cottrell and key defender Adam Galea were also dominant on the day.
Full-back Brodie Yapp had his hands full, but never stopped trying for the Redbacks.
