Coup for Pakenham as PGA pro signs on

By DAVID NAGEL

PAKENHAM Golf Club has scored a coup by securing Scott Laycock as its touring professional as part of a new-look team that will drive the club into the future.
The four-time PGA winner will join forces with the club’s new head professional Haydn Thompson and teaching professional Shannon Sandiford in providing club members with exciting opportunities going forward.
Laycock is also involved in the design of the club’s proposed redevelopment which is progressing well behind the scenes.
General manager of the Pakenham Golf Club Jason McQualter said these were exciting times for the club as he explained the new set-up.
“Haydn Thompson is our new head professional and golf operations manager and he’s in charge of the shop and will have a trainee underneath him,” McQualter said.
“Scott has also joined the club as a touring professional and we’re very excited about that. He’s not only involved in designing the redevelopment of the course, but will conduct lessons and spend some hours in the pro-shop over the next couple of years.”
“With Shannon as our teaching professional we could have three pros around at any one time. We’re just trying to provide the best possible service and open the game up to as many people as possible.”
Laycock said he was looking forward to continuing a strong bond with the local golfing community that dated back to his trainee days at Berwick Montuna.
“My playing career is still going OK but I don’t grind on the practice fairway like I used to so that’s freed up some time to give some lessons,” he said.
