Ratepayers, awake

IT IS good to see that the ratepayers are finally realising what this council is doing with our rates. Profligate spending on an unwanted cultural centre at a cost of $125 million or $157 million depending on what number Geoff Ablett currently has in his head.
Most of this cost seemingly funded by borrowings, if you can believe what Geoff Ablett says.
I am amazed that the forecast increase in rates is only six per cent. As a pensioner I would be delirious if my pension went up by six per cent or more each year.
A monument to the glory and self-aggrandisement of councillors is unnecessary and unwanted in the current environment. Particularly as at least two of our councillors (mayor and deputy mayor) are trying their hardest to leave council for the cushy job of a backbencher in State Parliament, leaving the ratepayers to pick up their bills.
Is there anyone out there who has the ability and noise to organise a non-political party protest group to stop this outrage?
Ray Baker,
Lynbrook.
