New track’s grass roots

By DAVID NAGEL

PAKENHAM Racing Club’s new state-of-the-art facility in Tynong is rising from the ground at a rapid rate.
Undercover raceday and training stalls have been built, while the events centre is under construction as the club heads towards its first race meeting, on grass, on Thursday 26 March, 2015.
But it’s what sits at ground level that really impresses at the 608-acre site.
Two sand training tracks are complete in preparation for the commencement of training, while half of the 9.5 hectare, Village Green Kikuyu grass-track, has already been laid by contractor Evergreen Turf.
“I love bringing people out here and just watching the look on their faces,” PRC track manager Brendan Short said, standing in the middle of the track where the course proper joins the 1600-metre chute.
