School celebrates

LUTHERAN schools across the country celebrated the 175th anniversary of teaching in Australia on Tuesday.
Lakeside Lutheran College welcomed distinguished guests from Lutheran education to celebrate the milestone.
The first Lutheran school in the area was located on Hessel Road in Harkaway in 1856.
At the anniversary ceremony, principal David Spike remarked that Lakeside is continuing a tradition of 158 years, forged by the original German settlers, such as Ernst Wanke.
Distinguished guests included National Director Steven Rudolph as well as chairman of the college council Mal Wegener and business manager Chris McMillan.
The college is part of a national system of more than 86 Lutheran school educating more than 40,000 students.
The college, which opened in 2006, welcomes families from diverse communities, with as many as 47 cultures represented in the student population from a range of faith traditions.
Mr Wegener was invited to plant a grevillea tree alongside college captains Zac Hogan and Esther Mulenga for the anniversary.
