Silverbacks in the back seat

– RUSSELL BENNETT

THE PAKENHAM Silverbacks gridiron team suffered its first ever loss on Saturday, going down to the Gippsland Gladiators in Morwell 28-0.
The result served as somewhat of a reality check for Cardinia’s newest sporting franchise, which impressed all and sundry with their first-up 8-8 draw with the Melbourne Uni Lions on 4 May.
The Silverbacks, currently in third place in Gridiron Victoria’s second division, will next face the Ballarat Falcons at The Cove Corio Community Reserve this Saturday from 10.30am.
The Pakenham side, which still does not have a home ground to call its own, will play each of its games on the road in its debut season.
