KAMBRYA College baseball duo Alex Clark and Ryan Bromley will don the Big V with their selection in the School Sport Victoria 17-and-under baseball team.
The Berwick-based pair, both 17-years-old, will square off against the rest of Australia at the School Sport Australia Baseball Championships next month in Wollongong.
Clark, a right-handed batter/outfielder and Bromley, a left-handed pitcher, were thrilled to make the side and to help promote high quality baseball throughout the state and country.
“It’s a pretty high achievement,” Bromley said.
“Even for baseballers – it’s not really big in Australia and Victoria yet, so it’s great to try and make it bigger here.”
“It’s pretty meaningful, I’m fairly proud to make this team,” Clark said.
With their school days at Kambrya about to draw to a close, the pair will look towards the American college system or follow in the pathway of their former schoolmate – current New York Yankees’ pitcher Adam Silva – and achieve their lifetime dreams to be signed for a Major League Baseball (MLB) team.
“I’m looking more at the ABL (Australian Baseball League) at the moment as I’m only 17 or even the Australian Baseball Academy and then college or getting signed if possible – that’s the dream,” Bromley said.
Anchoring the Kambrya College school baseball team, Clark and Bromley helped the school get through the first hurdle en route to the state finals.
“We had a tournament last week and got through that stage pretty easily so hoping to keep that going,” Bromley said.
“I think we can go to state for the school – we’ve got a pretty good team and we’ve got pitcher and outfielder in the state team, so we can go a long way.”
Kambrya College principal Michael Muscat said the school was behind the star students and thrilled to have more state-level honours for its baseball athletes.
“We’re very proud of the boys,” Muscat said.
“They’re very proactive and take a lot of responsibility for their own development and we think they’re outstanding students at our school.
“We’re right behind them and look forward to them achieving the highest success.”
