Levy good for bank deposits

I APPEAL to the average person to see the desirability of a national container deposit levy.
I walk and cycle in my area and have to dodge the containers thrown by the wayside.
If there was a 10c levy there would be far fewer of these containers getting in my way, and far less broken glass, because children would pick them up and add to their savings by returning them to the system.
I grew up on this method in South Australia and learned to earn and manage money by my own industry and efforts.
Not everybody worries about recycling, but the more people who do the better it will be for our environment.
Big business will cope with the ups and downs and the changes it calls them to make.
I’m all for it – returning empty bottles helped me purchase my first car.
We CDL supporters will keep up the concerted push for good reasons, most of all as it will inspire industry among the young and adventurous.
John Steward,
Junction Village.
