It’s all in a good book

By BRIDGET COOK

TWO Casey schools had a special visit from the former Premier of Victoria last month to celebrate their schools’ participation in this year’s Premier’s Reading Challenge.
Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley was joined by Steve Bracks on Thursday 21 at Berwick Fields Primary School and Kilberry Valley Primary School in Hampton Park.
The Premier’s Reading Challenge, now in its ninth year, aims to promote a love of reading and encourages students to read broadly.
At Kilberry Valley Primary School, more than 800 students participated in the challenge, with 75 of those students reading 100 books.
Berwick Fields Primary School had more than 500 students participate.
Ms Graley said Mr Bracks, who founded the Premier’s Reading Challenge, was very impressed with the stellar readers from both schools.
“The students at our local schools have once again shown they are champion readers and role models for the rest of the state,” she said.
“It is terrific to see students taking up the challenge with such passion and enthusiasm.
“Literacy is such an important part of learning and improving so it’s terrific to see students taking up the challenge with such energy and enthusiasm.
“Every child deserves to discover the excitement and wonder of a good book.”
