A NARRE Warren North family had a happy ending to their story, after the safe return of their beloved family dog which they thought they had lost forever.
Michelle Gatt contacted the News after their staffy named Indi went missing on Saturday last week from their home.
Ms Gatt said Indi wasn’t just a pet to them, but she was sentimental to them as she helped them through an emotional time last year.
The News posted a story of the missing dog on its website, and Ms Gatt placed a number of advertisements online and around Casey in the hope that they would find her.
That came true on Monday, when Ms Gatt received a call from a man in Keysborough who had her, and came across the missing dog advertisement.
“The man from Keysborough found her last Thursday on Stud Road, Dandenong, very distraught and hungry, so he took her home,” she said.
“He had her for five days, so she must have been roaming on her own for five days.
“My son and I went to pick her up and were over the moon when we saw her.
“We are so happy and thankful to have her back with us just in time for my birthday on Thursday, it’s the best present ever.”
Ms Gatt said her family, especially her children Tyron, 12, and Kaylah, 15, were so sad when Indi went missing.
“We got Indi the day after my husband’s brother committed suicide in December last year,” she said.
“We got this pup to help the children and us through a hard time.
“So she is not only our beloved pet, but she is very sentimental to us.”
Ms Gatt said the one year anniversary of her brother-in-law’s death was coming up in two weeks and they were hoping to get Indi home before then.
