AFTER a personal tragedy this year, Steven Lowndes jumped at the opportunity this Movember to raise awareness for men’s health.
On 2 July, Steven’s father passed away and the reality of cancer hit home for the Pakenham resident.
Mr Lowndes said he thought it was time he stepped up and helped bring to light how many people were affected by the disease.
“I thought I would give it a go and raise some awareness among all the males,” he said.
Mr Lowndes said he knows the stance that many men can take on their health.
“I know we’re all stubborn, but we have to take it seriously,” he said.
The Rio Tinto employee said while he had taken part in the past, it had been more of a novelty event.
“I have taken part but not too seriously.”
The Pakenham dad has already raised $500 and said the work team that he was a part of was nearing the $1500 mark.
Mr Lowndes hopes Movember and his own personal quest helps others to understand how easily tragedy can strike.
“I just don’t think people understand how pear-shaped it can go,” he said.
