CASEY TigerSharks’ summer season kicked off in fine form with Olympian Matson Lawson snaring a double at the Swimming Victoria Long Course Distance Competition.
Subtracting the sprinting categories from the race-meet, the Long Course Competition has swimmers partake in only the 200-metre, 400m, 800m and the gruelling 1500m in their chosen disciplines.
The TigerSharks’ first Olympic representative Matson Lawson continued his stellar 18 months with wins in the 400m freestyle and edging out team mates Josh Beaver and Mitch Pratt in the 200m backstroke.
It was a TigerSharks trifecta in the 200m backstroke with Lawson (2.00.76), Beaver (2.04.17) and Pratt (2.06.24) all posting flying times, especially considering it is early in the season.
Tynong torpedo Tyrone Dobrunz continued his rise through the ranks – posting a 2.23.42 in the 200m breastroke to knock TigerSharks team mate Shaun Banzon (2.27.29) into second.
Pratt excelled in his pet event – the 200m butterfly – with a 2.00.76 to continue the stellar form he had through the Australian Youth Olympic Festival and the recently held FINA World Junior Swimming Championships, held in Dubai.
Jessica Faoro flew the flag for the TigerSharks ladies – winning bronze in the 400m individual medley, touching in 5.09.43 behind Sian Whittaker and Mikayla Smith.
