Driver nailed

A STRING of nails punctured a Pakenham woman’s tyre on Tuesday morning as she drove her son to school.
At about 8.25am, Sianne Ritchie was driving down the undeveloped part of Henry Road in Pakenham when her car started to wobble.
She didn’t see anything until she got out of her car to find her tyre punctured with nails.
“Straight away I pulled over and there was a string of over 20 nails in my tyre so I sat on the side of the road and pulled them out,” Ms Ritchie said.
“The tyre didn’t go flat but it made a hissing noise as I got the nails out and it had been punctured.”
Once she dropped her son at school, she headed to Beaurepairs in Pakenham.
She posted a picture of the damage on her Facebook page and had comments from friends encouraging her to speak to the News.
“As soon as the photo was up, friends were commenting saying it had happened all over Pakenham,” she said.
Friends commented that they had heard of tyres being punctured by nails in Army Road and down Ryan Road.
When Ms Ritchie went to Beaurepairs, she was told that it was obvious the nails had to have been lying face up on the road to puncture her tyre.
“It was like a string of them from a nail gun,” she said.
Ms Ritchie had also been told by a friend that they may have been placed there permanently to discourage trail bike riders who use the empty estates.
“It was down on Henry Road where there are no houses built yet,” she said.
“My friend was saying people ride their trail bikes down there and perhaps it’s people trying to get rid of them.”
She said her tyre was fixed at a very reasonable price and the team at Beaurepairs were helpful, but it was concerning that there were piles of nails spotted around Pakenham.
