First aid training saves driver

A CASE of good timing and good Samaritans saved the life of a man in Pakenham on Monday.
Three Pakenham police officers and some helpful passer-bys have been credited with saving the 67-year-old Pakenham’s life after he fell unconscious behind the wheel of his car.
An off duty senior constable and her husband came across the vehicle blocking Racecourse Road about 3.15pm.
The pair pulled the man from the car with the assistance of two other members of the public and started CPR.
A Pakenham police van was also conducting a routine patrol at the time and the two officers assisted with CPR until paramedics arrived.
A defibrillator from a nearby factory was also used by a woman who works at a local aquatic centre and is trained in CPR.
One of the junior constables, along with members of the public, continued giving CPR for around 10 minutes before ambulance paramedics arrived and took over, reviving the man.
He remains in intensive care at the Monash Medical Centre.
