RAGING winds which tore through the City of Casey last weekend left SES crews shocked and surprised.
Members from the local SES couldn’t believe their eyes when they arrived to many scenes to discover large trees had been completely uprooted.
Member from Narre Warren SES Nicola Turner said the crews were ‘gobsmacked’, when they found that trees weren’t simply missing branches, but that complete trees had been knocked down.
Ms Turner said this is quite unusual, and more often trees simply lose branches rather than being completely lifted from the earth.
It is suspected the winds reached gusts of over 100km per hour. The SES member said it was a busy weekend.
“We had about 90 jobs in total,” she said.
“A majority of them were in Endeavour Hills and Harkaway, but we also had a few in Blind Bight and Warneet and towards Cranbourne.”
Most areas in the City of Casey experienced the wild winds from Friday through to Sunday.
There were also power outages due to the weather, and according to Jasmine Mace who commented on facebook, Cannons Creek was without power from 9pm Friday night until Saturday afternoon at 5pm.
Ms Turner said thankfully there were no known injuries or damages to houses caused by the winds.
She said this was slightly surprising but good news in the wake of the bad weather.
